Announcement

a reminder for international students:

the importance of respecting local customs, public etiquette, and community regulations during your stay in Taiwan

Dear International Students,

Embracing a multicultural spirit involves understanding and respecting the social norms that help keep our shared environment harmonious and pleasant for everyone.

Whether on campus or in public spaces beyond the university, everyone is expected to respect others and maintain appropriate behavior.

Please be mindful that loud conversations, disruptive conduct, or improper use of shared spaces may affect those around you.

We would like to bring these specific examples to your attention to ensure they are not repeated:

1. Library Conduct: The library is a dedicated space for quiet study. Bringing food inside, hosting social gatherings, or speaking loudly disrupts other students.

Please remember to reserve your seats properly and respect the space.

2. Public Space Usage: Campus lounges, cafeterias, and outdoor seating are shared resources.

Please do not leave personal belongings to occupy seats for extended periods, allow guests to run around, or create noise in quiet shared spaces.

3. Event and Cultural Etiquette: While we celebrate cultural diversity, any events or large gatherings held on campus must strictly adhere to university guidelines. Creating excessive noise or failing to clean up after events causes unnecessary discomfort within the TMU community.

4. Personal Space and Environment: Please be mindful of others in confined shared spaces (such as classrooms, labs, and elevators). This includes avoiding disruptive or noisy behavior and being considerate regarding strong odors or scents that may cause discomfort or allergic reactions to those around you.

Taiwanese society highly values mutual respect, consideration, and public order.

The behaviors mentioned above not only violate campus rules but also damage the reputation of the international student community as a whole.

Please exercise self-restraint and mindfulness in your daily conduct.

Future violations may result in official warnings or disciplinary actions in accordance with university regulations.

Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a respectful and welcoming environment for everyone.

Sincerely,
Office of Global Engagement
